Beauty Retail Launches and News Q1 2023

The beginning of the year means retail resets. Target announced an expansion of its beauty assortment in February with thousands of new products, and news of retail rollouts was nonstop. Shelf space in brick-and-mortar locations is finite regardless of how large the retail may be, so new brand launches require downsizing or discontinuing others to make room. This news is harder to come by. However, two influencer-founded brands launched exclusively with Sephora in 2021, Item Beauty by Addison Rae and Selfless by Hyram, didn't make the cut heading into 2023. Lord Jones also saw a phased exit from Sephora. On the heels of fresh funding rounds, Peace Out and Moon Juice expanded beyond their Sephora exclusives to launch with Ulta Beauty.Retailer NewsThe UK, specifically The Westfield White City shopping center, has become ground zero for the battle for prestige British beauty shoppers' hearts, minds, and wallets. Space NK unveiled its biggest retail concept to date, Boots revamped its beauty hall, and Sephora made its brick-and-mortar return to the UK market.Clean beauty retailer Credo opened its twelfth store and second location in Los Angeles, choosing Larchmont Village, a vibrant, walkable neighborhood with a rich history and a small-town feel. The retailer engaged the LA-based Klein Agency to unveil a new design.The Sephora at Kohl’s concept will open 250 new locations and enter seven new states in 2023, including Arkansas, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, South Dakota, and Utah, bringing Sephora at Kohl’s presence to 48 states.
